Why is Congressman Joe Sestak raising money for CAIR???
Why is Congressman former Navy Vice Admiral Joe Sestak raising money for CAIR???
By Lori Lowental Marcus
Why is a
Freshman Congressman and former Navy Vice Admiral Joe Sestak (District 7-PA) obstinately refuses to withdraw from speaking at a CAIR fundraiser in
CAIR, the Council on American Islamic Relations, has a lengthy dossier proving it has had and continues to have associated with it dangerous individuals who have been convicted of, charged with and deported because of, actions that threaten America and its allies.
Unfortunately, the public and in particular the mainstream media have embraced the rejection of the experts' warnings by CAIR and its fellow travelers who claim those experts are right-wing conservatives and - to make matters worse - Jews, who are furthering their personal agendas by vilifying CAIR.
Apparently many believe that CAIR is being victimized by neo-conservative Jewish operatives, and that any criticism of the organization or its supporters is evidence of Islamophobia. Indeed, that is precisely what CAIR leaders claimed was motivating (the primarily Jewish) critics of Congressman Sestak's financial connection to CAIR.
The public pandering to this dangerous group of Muslims is only possible by a refusal to distinguish between fact and opinion. FACT: five CAIR board members and employees have been convicted of terrorism-related activities. Fact: CAIR received seed money from and subsequently raised money for the Holy Land Foundation, an entity shut down by the
CAIR bills itself as a "civil rights organization," which is, perhaps, why it gets a free pass from those who should know better. But consider CAIR's peculiar understanding of civil rights: Randall "Ismail" Royer, CAIR's former communications specialist and civil rights coordinator, is currently serving a 20 year sentence after having been charged with possessing "AK-47-style rifles, telescopic lenses, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, documents on undertaking jihad and martyrdom" and instructional booklets for manufacturing and using explosives and chemicals as weapons.
Several weeks before Congressman Sestak's scheduled appearance at a Philadelphia-CAIR fundraiser, he was scheduled to appear at a "town meeting" in a Philadelphia-area synagogue. Sestak's appearance at that event had been arranged by local Democrat party officials and was sponsored by the local Jewish Federation and the synagogue.
To his credit, but not necessarily to those who invited him and would not withdraw the invitation, Sestak showed up on March 11th to speak to what he had to know would be a very hostile audience. Area residents had been calling his office to register their disapproval. Unfortunately, the former CAIR employee and the one who arranged his appearance at the CAIR event was the Sestak staffer who was charged with taking calls on the topic.
And what was Sestak's response to the critical questions put to him? First of all, he told his questioners, dozens of his constituents were going to be present at the fundraiser and wanted him to be there. He told the town meeting participants that just as he meets with all his constituent groups: Irish groups, Polish groups, Jewish groups, the NAACP, he was going to meet with this group as well.
Second, the Congressman told the audience that during his campaign, whenever he needed people to help him hand out flyers he first called the Muslim community because they were always eager to help. In other words, Sestak's first go-to volunteer group during his campaign was the Muslim community rather than the Democratic Party machine. Odd. Finally, Sestak defended his association with CAIR by pointing out that the
Sestak told the audience that he had his campaign staff investigate CAIR during his campaign. Perhaps that happened when CAIR-PA Director Iftekhar Hussain made a several hundred dollar contribution to Sestak's campaign and with whom Sestak allegedly visited in his home.
At the town hall synagogue appearance Sestak floundered for several hours during which he was forced to face angry Americans who rejected his flaccid responses to their pointed questions. Since that time, though, no one has called him to task for what certainly seems to be an unnecessarily provocative, some might suggest unwise, decision. Joe Sestak is a
A local newspaper that covered Sestak's appearance at the Philadelphia-area synagogue editorialized that if there were anything to the terrorism-related allegations, there would be a huge public outcry. In fact, the first line of that editorial was: "Give Joe Sestak a break." The mainstream media has been giving Sestak a break which is why there has been no outcry. It is time for those who believe we should be fighting terrorism to stop pandering to dangerous groups. Joe Sestak refuses to break his connection to CAIR, a group with terrorist connections. Because of that, he does not deserve a break. And if he still gets a pass, then shame on all of us.

Glenn: After preaching radical reform and the birth of a new era, the democratically controlled congress is, as I see it, but I'm a conservative, done nothing but bush bash and I place the blame squarely on the leaders of the leader, the speaker of the house, Nancy Pelosi. Nancy, quite honestly, and I think I speak for most of America, we're bored with the bush bash thing. It's one thing to be ineffective here at home, but then again it's another to take your show on the road like Nancy is now doing on her trip to Syria, trying to broker a new peace talk between Syrian president Assad and the leaders of Israel. Nancy, in case you have forgotten, Syria declared a rogue terrorist state, a little honor they have held since 1979, maybe you should start reading the paper and maybe you would have seen the little story about how the ultraconservative United Nations implicated Syria in the assassination of Lebanon's president. Now here's a clip of what Nancy thinks she's doing over there.
"Of course, the role of Syria and Iraq, the role of Syria of supporting Hamas and Hezbollah, the role of Syria and so many respects that we think there could be a vast improvement so, therefore, we think it's a good idea to establish the facts to hopefully build some confidence between us. We have no illusions, but we have great hope."
Glenn: Yeah. President Bush sees her mission just a little differently. Roll this out.
"A photo opportunity and/or meetings with president Assad lead the Assad government to believe they are part of the mainstream of the international community when in fact they are a state sponsor of terror."
Glenn: Okay. Is she a peace-maker, is she a trouble-maker? Brigitte Gabriel, the president of American Congress for Truth, author of "BECAUSE THEY HATE" A Survivors of Islamic Terror Warns America. See -- I'm a conservative who is not going to come out and say the democrats hate America because I don't think they do. How could she be this wrong? How do you possibly see Assad as anything as somebody who harbors terrorists?
Brigitte: Well, let's just say, Glenn, she's misguided. I'm sure she's a patriotic American and loves this country but she sees things differently than you and I do. She does not understand the Middle East and has no concept. If she did, she would not be parading down the streets of Damascus in a hijab.
Glenn: What is she missing? What do you know that she doesn't know?
Brigitte: She needs to realize Syria has no interest in negotiating with the United States. Syria is using Nancy Pelosi as a puppet and a photo-op to give Syria credibility on the world stage, so Syria is not looked at as a dictatorship or as an axis of evil or as a terror-harboring state but as a state that the Speaker of the House of the United States goes and visit and gives them credibility and say, you know, we agree with you. We want to negotiate with you. We do not think our president is right in judging you, and, therefore, we're going above our president to give you credibility and to show you and the world that we are representing the American government and we think that you are okay. That is wrong.
Glenn: All right. Brigitte, I know there are a ton of people in America who say I'm so sick of the Middle East. They can just open up and fall into a sinkhole because they have been fighting for 2,500 years, if not longer. Just shut up already. Why don't you just let them fight it out themselves. How do you respond to that?
Brigitte: You know what, if we knew they can fight it on themselves and just let the world forget about them, we would. We would gladly let them fight it out themselves, sadly, Glenn, we have Israel as the only democratic country in the Middle East, the only civilized nation in the Middle East that is like the United States that is in the middle of a sea of hatred and venom that the Arabs are spewing to wipe her off the map. We also have a problem with the Middle East because now we are dependent on their oil. They are affecting us. They are imigrating to our country. They are infiltrating our country. They are studying in our universities. The world has become very small, and we can no longer ignore the fact that our enemies have repeatedly stated that had they want to destroy the great Satan, America. Let's not forget that Iran made that statement back in 1979.
Glenn: Yeah.
Brigitte: They have not wavered. We are the bull's eye. Israel is only the little Satan.
Glenn: It's amazing to me that this really has been a week of propaganda.
Brigitte: It is.
Glenn: It's -- they are rolling 300s, strike after strike this week. You have Nancy Pelosi, Tony Blair folding, Ahmadinejad. What is the view of the west this week in the Middle East?
Brigitte: The view of the West in the Middle East this week is that we are cowards, that we are weak. We no longer have men with courage to fight and stand up for their principles. The Arab leaders have been giving that message to their population year after year after year. This has started systematically for 20 years. However, this week we have proven to the Arab world, to the Arabic dictators who show to their people using their television and media, that, look, the West is cowhering one after the other. Britain is no longer the power it used to be. America is no longer the power it used to be. The West is divided.
Glenn: You've got it. Thank you very much.
Brigitte: Thank you.

Iraq: Jihadists behead, roast Christian toddler
Savagery in the name of obedience to the Almighty. From "We must not let this ancient Church slide into oblivion," by Ed West in the Catholic Herald (thanks to all who sent this in):
“When they cook a dish in the Middle East, it is traditional to put the meat on top of the rice when they serve it. They kidnapped a woman’s baby in Baghdad, a toddler, and because the mother was unable to pay the ransom, they returned her child – beheaded, roasted and served on a mound of rice.” The infant’s crime was to be an Assyrian, but this story, reported by the Barnabus Fund, went unnoticed in the West, like so many other horrific accounts of Christian persecution in Iraq.Since the invasion of Iraq, Muslim militants have bombed 28 churches and murdered hundreds of Christians. Last October, Islamists beheaded a priest in Mosul in revenge for the Pope’s remarks about Islam at Regensburg. But never let it be said that jihadis do not have a sense of ironic humour: that same month they crucified a 14-year-old Christian boy in Basra.
