A Damn Good Art Review

Latin Art Deathmatch! - Part 1

by Shane Wiggs

Debased by its own redundancy and passive-aggressive relationship with the western tradition, Latin art has, for the most part, become merely political. The same tacky color schemes support recycled Aztec/Inca/Maya symbols, while simultaneously denying the brutality of the hideous, polytheistic, human-sacrificing cultures they conceal. Because we cannot avoid the monocultural deluge, the summer Latin art inundation will be addressed directly here, in a two part series. Blood will be spilled.

What happened to multiculturalism? This annoying PC imposition on American culture used to bring OTHER cultures to areas that didn’t have them…Asian or African art made inroads into major galleries, and museums spent millions revamping their “primitive and aboriginal” collections. And while I have gleefully witnessed the demise of “southwest art,” the new “Latin art” has weaseled it’s way into the spot formerly occupied by the sludge of Santa Fe.

Jose Cisneros is a hack… plain and simple. How the hell you can go through a 55-year “career” of drawing people without ever bothering to learn anatomy and the human figure is beyond me. Cisneros work, although historical in nature, is a perfect marriage of ignorance and arrogance. Ignorance in that he never found it necessary to educate himself or attempt anything outside his narrow, unexamined “vision,” and arrogance in never deciding it necessary to challenge himself, change his style, or evolve at all. While there is some passable work (mainly from the 1940’s) in costuming and historical vernacular, one can’t help but wonder about the saccharine, shallow and staged tone of his work. This is amply illustrated in prints and drawings named for friars, Europeans and Mexican historical figures, while the indigenous and native Americans in the same pictures enjoy a condescending anonymity. That crushing silence you hear is the racism no one wants to talk about.

Cisneros was unable to attain the level of virtuosity of the artists he imitated (Durer, Dore and the like…), while simultaneously refusing to loosen up, and free himself into a more modern style. But because there is a large local community dedicated to perpetuating bad art and mutual ass-kissing, this garbage keeps appearing on gallery and museum walls. The El Paso tradition of mediocrity is perpetuated… unquestioned. Thanks for that, EPMA. My favorite aspect of Cisneros work would be the clumsy, out-of -proportion figures, often sporting unintentionally distorted hands, with their backs to the viewer, all of whom seem to have the same waxen faces despite their sex… you know, the hallmarks of an inept artist dealing in figurative work. Another “highlight” of the exhibition are the border portraits, executed in 2004 - these are so bad I actually laughed out loud, and are a testament to the diminishing of what small skill he may have once possessed. I also find it ironic that Cisneros is celebrated for depicting Colonial culture (badly) while John Houser is derided for doing it well. Go figure. Anyway, if you’re interested in seeing someone strangle the joy and wonder out of historical art, as well as lumpy, stiff, amateurish rendering, with rigid, uninspired linework, this show will be hanging until September 30 at the El Paso Museum of Art. It’s comedy at least, even if it wasn’t meant to be.

A stark contrast to the aforementioned atrocity exhibition (thanks Ballard…) is mercifully provided by UTEP’s Rubin Center in “El Maestro Franicisco Toledo: Art from Oaxaca, 1959 – 2006” which will hang until September 22. A true master of many forms, Toledo freely borrows from Western, Latin, and indigenous points of view without becoming imprisoned or limited by them. He neither overuses nor worships any particular culture, and presents us with a completely realized personal vision. The first thing that struck me about this show was the muted palette – earth tones and black and white work that illustrate a conscious deviation from the gaudy “naco-ism” that dominates modern Latin art color schemes. He also uses animals extensively, but doesn’t hit you over the head with tiresome totemic references. One of the best works in the show is called “The Turkey” and is replete with layers of detail, symbol, and value (artistic and metaphoric…). It’s a work that rewards a long stare with humming patterns of emerging meaning and inspires awe at the sheer creativity and detail embedded in the paper. There are small prints and drawings like “Blood and Urine” and “Man Slaughtering Cow” that synchronously attract and repel. It is in works like this that Toledo is able to elicit curiosity, recognition of the familiar, wonder and repulsion. He works in textiles and ceramics as well, and can summon genuine laughter and terror from his audience. “Deer Stew” is a sculpture that manages to do both through crude, yet uncannily accurate form that seems to be screaming out in pain. “The House of Beans” is another ceramic piece that has a toy-like quality, asking to be handled and played with, while protected and overseen by a simplified skeleton. Life and death are at play and at peace. “Skeletons Making Love” invokes this theme, while also pointing to the true reward of debasing oneself with empty sex.

Some of the most satisfying works in the show are culled from a series called “Report to an Academy” and are based on the Franz Kafka story of the same name. Toledo is able to approach this exceptional story from a point of purity, because he sees beauty and truth everywhere - even in the places Latin artists usually heap disdain and condescension… like Western literature. Instead of retreading the tire of cultural resentment, he uses a bike-riding, liquor-drinking monkey as a doorway to self-deprecation and examination.

The prints are jarring and dreamlike, and place the viewer in uncomfortable recognition of animalistic behavior both observed and lived through the fog of drunkenness. He makes you reel through double vision and slurred speech. You can almost feel the hangover. At the same time, sympathy oozes through the images and the pitiful monkey in the prints seems to hold more of ourselves than we might be comfortable with; an edifying quality Kafka would, no doubt, admire.

Go see this show. Now… in fact, go see it twice. There’s stuff I can’t even address here – surprising textures, slinky sexuality, innovative use of materials, creepy moments laden with vermin and insects and humor that reflects life as it should be. The genius of Francisco Toledo lies in his flexibility and refusal to be pigeonholed. It’s a lesson El Paso artists should take to heart.

Latin Art Deathmatch! Part II

by Shane Wiggs

These gangster portraits, while well rendered, are so played it’s ridiculous. I get that he’s trying to show the “beauty” of a people that go largely unnoticed and unexamined, but these are the folks who sell drugs to your kids in school, beat up your friends down the street, tag on your walls, steal your cars, and stab your cousins.

Latin Art Deathmatch! Part II

When I went to see Sister Cities: Testing Boundaries at the El Paso Museum of Art I was expecting to see a balanced artistic discussion of border issues. With a few exceptions this show displayed a whining victim mentality that trapped it in mere politics like a moth frozen in amber. What I left with was a pessimistic, heavily skewed propaganda show that could have just as easily been titled Blame Whitey: Why America is the Root of All Evil.

Let’s clear the crap off the field first. There are a few pieces in this show that have no place in either a museum or the bathroom wall of a truck stop in Hooker, Oklahoma. Guadalupe Serrano’s small pornographic collage is the kind of thing we used to laugh off the wall in art school. It appears to be a weak attempt to address the Juarez murders, but succeeds only in debasing this sad story even further. Because it has little to offer in technique or content, shock value is the tired card played here. Unfortunately, my 9 year-old son found this before I did, and was quick to ask me what it was doing in a museum. What, indeed? I was pondering an answer when the Summer Art Camp for Kids ambled by… ouch. I wonder how the tour guide handled that. Next on the B-list would be Adriana Peraldi. Her unexceptional painting “Desert Road” could have come from any number of sad “southwest” galleries. I guess the absence of faces was supposed to separate it from the crowd of bad paintings it emulates. Is this trying to be a profound insight into the struggle of border-crossers? It also has some distracting, irrelevant texture that resembles sausage from a pizza. Last I checked, art wasn’t an equal-opportunity program and artists from Mexico were expected to perform at the same level as anyone else in the world. Finally there’s a piece called “Drowned” by Juan “Jufrago” Gonzalez that is so shoddily constructed that the Situationists would have recommended some touch-up work.

Next is the art that, while competent in technique, is laughably wrongheaded. Gaspar Enriquez is up to the same old tricks in his canonization of the common thug. The police blotter and obituaries will remember them better than any crass attempt at martyrdom and lionization. And frankly, I find his use of a social class he transcended cynical in the worst way. Far from drawing our attention to a worthy cause, Enriquez is glorifying an unworthy subject for personal gain and blatant careerism. He’s attempting to do for art what narco-ballads have “done” for Mexican music while slumming for alms. No, really… you shouldn’t have.

Antonio Castro Sr. contributes two paintings. One is amazing in technique, but stultifying in content. It’s called “The Terrorist’s Weapons,” and the brushwork is immaculate… the color and value, perfection. It is then that much more disappointing when one submits this painting’s content to examination. While there’s a little room for interpretation, Castro attempts, through demagoguery, to convince us of at least two ridiculous exercises in spurious logic. First, that artists have somehow been labeled terrorists. Are you kidding me? You’re not as dangerous as you think. Second, the “idea” that the artist is somehow persecuted in this country is patently absurd. Go paint protest art in Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Malaysia, or even Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, and see how long it is before you take a dirt nap. When was the last time anyone was "disappeared" because of their art in the US? The cowardly provocation in this painting represents one of the most disgusting inversions of truth I’ve witnessed in years. Just the fact that this painting hangs in an American museum, far from being an artistic coup, is verification of the profound freedoms afforded by this country. The “boot crushing the face of humanity” from 1984 makes an appearance in his other painting… apparently there’s no well-known Latin American dystopian fiction from which these guys can appropriate images. The reference is just too obvious.

Speaking of the stolen jackboot image, it pops up in the disastrously racist work, “Border Shoes” by University of Arizona professor Alfred Quiroz. Let me first say that if I were to paint the same painting depicting “brown” people in the way he depicts whites, I would be prosecuted for hate crimes. It presupposes that only gringos can be racist, and the same hate coming from hispanics is somehow justified. As a political piece, this painting feebly attempts to address NAFTA and the tense state of border affairs. Also, this painting uses color to get your attention in the same way a clown or streetwalker would. Let’s analyze it using the same tools we might use to dissect Nazi propaganda posters. The first step in any kind of propaganda is to identify the enemy… in this case, white people. The next step is to dehumanize the enemy through caricature or by blending their image with animal, insectoid, or other subhuman features. All the Caucasians in the painting are fools: wearing exaggerated noses, overly pink skin, bulging eyes, tongues hanging out – you know, rednecks, hillbillies and yahoos. And those are the Canadians. There’s only one American in the painting, and he’s a sneering Border Patrol agent. The rest of us are reduced to corporate logos. The Mexicans in the composition are transformed into noble, golden sculptures. They are painted beautifully and sympathetically, raised above the status of mere humans. The crudely rendered Border Patrol agent is using his “fascist jackboot” to trample the face of one of the poor, suffering, eternal Mexicans while he discharges his firearm into another golden SuperMexican. Puh-leez.

Now the good stuff - Mauricio Saenz is to be commended for calling communism what it is… evil and murderous. Reversing the trend of sanctifying criminals in his painting “Abyss Has No End…” he uses images of Latin Communist dictators and revolutionaries walking on the skulls of their victims to bring his point home. It’s refreshing to see Che Guevara portrayed as the homicidal thug he was. Jorge Javier Lopez’ “Relapse” print series is probably the best in the show. It deals with injured, incomplete and sometimes amputated figures and obliquely refers to our fallen, distorted nature. Sometimes scribbled over, the people in Lopez’ compositions painfully persist despite catastrophic deformity and injury. It is art that crosses boundaries and applies to everyone. It’s eternal and echoing. Some of the figures seem genuinely malevolent while others, despite the creepy ambiance, possess a noble hope and perseverance. The tension and irony are truly profound.

There is one piece, though, that perfectly sums up the entire show. Francisco Delgado contributes a sculpture called “Myth vs. Reality,” consisting of a small Lucha ring occupied by two found-object wrestlers. Defeated, and on the mat, is what appears to be a Mexican luchador built of a can of refried beans (a beaner…) and sporting the colors of the Mexican flag. Towering over him is an American with red, white, blue, and olive-drab uniform. The wrestling metaphor works perfectly because everyone knows Lucha is staged, the outcome dramatic and predetermined. Everyone plays their stereotypical roles in iconic fashion. Often the “bad guys” (read: Americans) win so that the underdog can come back for a “righteous” victory next week. People, hypnotized by the idiotic spectacle, suspend disbelief and think of the crass, planned violence as “just entertainment” while their taste, intelligence and character visibly coarsen. Americans are to be ashamed of their success, and pity the hispanics who victimize themselves. Frankly, I am a little embarrassed that someone might get off a plane from Anywhere, USA, go to the museum and see this exhibit urinating on our country. A little balance and less white-guilt could have gone a long way towards saving this show.

Shane Wiggs will be called a racist for this article (nevermind that Mexico is a country, not a race…). He will get dirty looks at art openings. His son is Hispanic... so there. He can be reached by petroglyph.

Fitzgerald: Keep those cards coming in

"According to the official, some senior officers [of Fatah] have been suspected of cooperating with Hamas even prior to the decisive round of clashes with Fatah. He said the officers received money from Hamas in exchange for transferring information on the deployment of Palestinian Authority forces in the Strip." -- from this article

Hardly surprising. Fatah is hardly distinguishable from Hamas, except in the perfervid imaginations of Western leaders, and some dismal Israeli ones, determined to make a soap opera with "good" Fatah and "bad" Hamas playing their assigned roles. They differ only in that the people who sign up to get their checks from Fatah are a little more worldly and cynical. They have a better sense of the current balance of forces, and just a little more willingness to utter a phony phrase or two in order to keep the Jizyah flowing. But they have no intention of ever making real peace with Israel.

Rather, as Slow Jihadists, they differ from Hamas only in tactics and timing. They are quite willing, whenever the occasion presents itself, to be as murderous, or more murderous than Hamas. Everything in their history and in their statements for fellow Muslims proves it; not a single thing disproves it.

The inability of Western leaders is of course not helped by the terminal confusion and fear of Olmert and a few others in Israel. They simply do not wish to understand Israel's plight, because they cannot begin to figure out ways to manage what is, in fact, at this point still a most manageable situation.

And the same is true of leaders -- of those "taking a leadership role" -- in larger Infidel lands outside the Middle East. These lands are less obviously imperiled than Israel, but are definitely in the same boat. Or, to change the metaphor slightly, in an identical boat, headed at a slightly different rate over the same falls, if the course of the particular national narrenschiff is not to become the national naufragium.

Dumbing down, when it is also dumbing up -- so that those whose duty it is to properly and thoroughly inform themselves, so as to both instruct and protect those they claim to lead -- is a big problem. One cannot be raised up in a society that is as inattentive as ours currently is to history and to language (by which thoughts are formulated, and given shape, and also the means by which an enemy can manipulate by "capturing" the language that is to be employed), as well as to literature, which helps to strengthen the muscle of the imagination.

For what is going on in the Western world is a failure of historical understanding, and a simultaneous failure of imagination. There is a general inability to imagine a "war" that is not a war by the means which we, and assorted generals in and out of the Pentagon, have come to think of as the only means of "war." There is, furthermore, a general failure to imagine -- before it happens -- the consequences of the islamization of the countries of Western Europe, and what would mean for art, science, human freedom, and the physical safety of Infidels everywhere.

A failure of knowledge. A failure of imagination. A breakdown of education. It all connects. It is all responsible.

Meanwhile, how do you feel when you read about the Fatah-Hamas warfare, a war over turf and power? The Slow Jihadists are eager to turn on the tap of the Infidel Jizyah (that "foreign aid") and are willing to take their time in attacking Israel, while the truest of True Believers, the Fast Jihadists, are unwilling to do so. They are less worldly and less corrupt that the Slow Jihadists, who are emblemized by the outwardly-generally-accepted-accounting-principles soft demeanor of that longtime Arafat collaborator, up to his neck in blood, Mahmoud Abbas.

Are you sorry? Do you wish it would end? Do you think this "chaos" is a "catastrophe" for Infidels, or something else? Isn't it, rather, a very useful Demonstration Project of a society on Islam, without a despot to reign it in and to channel its aggression toward Infidels?

Can you think of other places in the neighborhood where such an outcome might do more to further American, and Infidel interests, and provide another example of Muslim failure to compromise, Muslim aggression, Muslim violence? Can you think of other contexts that would provide an even bigger Demonstration Project, particularly for those in Western Europe now waking from their deep sleep of unreason and evasion?

If you can think of one, please write the name of that place on a postcard, and send it to President George W. Bush, The White House, Washington, D. C. Just write on it: "After reading, please forward to Very Big Grand Strategy Office in the Pentagon."

Keep those cards coming in.

Eventually even those terminally confused in Washington will begin to get the idea.

How To Destroy America

We know Dick Lamm as the former Governor of Colorado. In that context his
thoughts are particularly poignant. Last week there was an immigration
overpopulation conference in Washington, DC, filled to capacity by many of America's
finest minds and leaders. A brilliant college professor by the name of
Victor Davis Hansen talked about his latest book, "Mexifornia," explaining how
immigration - both legal and illegal was destroying the entire state of
California. He said it would march across the country until it destroyed all vestiges
of The American Dream.

Moments later, former Colorado Governor Richard D. Lamm stood up and gave a
stunning speech on how to destroy America. The audience sat spellbound as he
described eight methods for the destruction of the United States. He said,
"If you believe that America is too smug, too self-satisfied, too rich, then
let's destroy America. It is not that hard to do. No nation in history has
survived the ravages of time. Arnold Toynbee observed that all great
civilizations rise and fall and that 'An autopsy of history would show that all great
nations commit suicide.'"

"Here is how they do it," Lamm said: "First, to destroy America, turn
America into a bilingual or multi-lingual and bicultural country." History shows
that no nation can survive the tension, conflict, and antagonism of two or more
competing languages and cultures. It is a blessing for an individual to be
bilingual; however, it is a curse for a society to be bilingual. The
historical scholar, Seymour Lipset, put it this way: "The histories of bilingual and
bi-cultural societies that do not assimilate are histories of turmoil,
tension, and tragedy" Canada, Belgium, Malaysia, and Lebanon all face crises of
national existence in which minorities press for autonomy, if not independence.
Pakistan and Cyprus have divided. Nigeria suppressed an ethnic rebellion.
France faces difficulties with Basques, Bretons, and Corsicans.".

Lamm went on: Second, to destroy America, "Invent 'multiculturalism' and
encourage immigrants to maintain their culture. Make it an article of belief
that all cultures are equal. That there are no cultural differences. Make it an
article of faith that the Black and Hispanic dropout rates are due solely to
prejudice and discrimination by the majority. Every other explanation is out
of bounds.

Third, "We could make the United States an 'Hispanic Quebec' without much
effort. The key is to celebrate diversity rather than unity. As Benjamin
Schwarz said in the Atlantic Monthly recently: "The apparent success of our own
multiethnic and multicultural experiment might have been achieved not by
tolerance but by hegemony. Without the nce that once dictated ethnocentricity and
what it meant to be an American, we are left with only tolerance and pluralism
to hold us together."
Lamm said, "I would en courage all immigrants to keep their own language and
culture. I would replace the melting pot metaphor with the salad bowl
metaphor. It is important to ensure that we have various cultural subgroups living
in America enforcing their differences rather than as Americans, emphasizing
their similarities."

"Fourth, I would make our fastest growing demographic group the least
educated. I would add a second underclass, unassimilated, undereducated, and
antagonistic to our population. I would have this second underclass have a 50%
dropout rate from high school."

"My fifth point for destroying America would be to get big foundations and
business to give these efforts lots of money. I would invest in ethnic
identity, and I would establish the cult of 'Victimology.' I would get all
minorities to think that the ir lack of success was the fault of the majority. I would
start a grievance industry blaming all minority failure on the majority
population."

"My sixth plan for America's downfall would include dual citizenship, and
promote divided loyalties. I would celebrate diversity over unity. I would
stress differences rather than similarities. Diverse people worldwide are mostly
engaged in hating each other - that is, when they are not killing each other.
A diverse, peaceful, or stable society is against most historical precedent.
People undervalue the unity it takes to keep a nation together. Look at the
ancient Greeks. The Greeks believed that they belonged to the same race; they
possessed a common Language and literature; and they worshipped the same
gods. All Greece took part in the Olympic games. A common en emy, Persia,
threatened their liberty. Yet all these bonds were not strong enough to overcome
two factors: local patriotism and geographical conditions that nurtured
political divisions. Greece fell. "E. Pluribus Unum" --From many, one. In that
historical reality, if we put the emphasis on the 'pluribus' instead of t he
'Unum,' we will balkanize America as surely as Kosovo."

"Next to last, I would place all subjects off limits; make it taboo to talk
about anything against the cult of 'diversity.' I would find a word similar
to 'heretic' in the 16th century - that stopped discussion and paralyzed
thinking. Words like 'racist' or 'xenophobe' halt discussion and debate. Having
made Am erica a bilingual/bicultural country, having established
multi-culturism, having the large foundations fund the doctrine of 'Victimology,' I would
next make it impossible to enforce our immigration laws. I would develop a
mantra: That because immigration has been good for America, it must always be
good. I would make every individual immigrant symmetric and ignore the
cumulative impact of millions of them."

In the last minute of his speech, Governor Lamm wiped his brow. Profound
silence followed. Finally he said,. "Lastly, I would censor Victor Davis
Hanson's book "Mexifornia." His book is dangerous. It exposes the plan to destroy
America. If you feel America. deserves to be destroyed, don't re ad that
book."

There was no applause. A chilling fear quietly rose like an ominous cloud
above every attendee at the conference. Every American in that room knew that
everything Lamm enumerated was proceeding methodically, quietly, darkly, yet
pervasively across the United States today. Discussion is being suppressed.
Over 100 languages are ripping the foundation of our educational system and
national cohesiveness. Even barbaric cultures that practice female genital
mutilation are growing as we celebrate 'diversity.' American jobs are vanishing
into the Third World as corporations create a Third World in America - take
note of California and other states - to date, ten million illegal aliens and
growing fast. It is reminiscent of George Orwell's book "1984." In that story,
three slogans are engraved in the Ministry of Truth building: "War is
peace," "Freedom is slavery," and "Ignorance is strength."

Governor Lamm walked back to his seat. It dawned on everyone at the
conference that our nation and the future of this great democracy is deeply in
trouble and worsening fast. If we don't get this immigration monster stopped within
three years, it will rage like a California wildfire and destroy everything
in its path especially The American Dream.

If you care for and love our country as I do, take the time to pass this on
just as I did for you. NOTHING is going to happen if you don't.

Al Qaeda Angle Emerges in CAIR-Tied Terror Case

As the Holy Land Foundation case moves forward, more details are emerging about the involvement of the Council on American Islamic Relations—including more than one connection to Al Qaeda: Al-Qaida Angle Emerges in CAIR-Tied Terror Case.

CAIR has repeatedly denied any association with Hamas. But don’t believe it, says retired FBI special agent John Vincent, who has worked Hamas cases in Chicago, where IAP is based. “There is no question CAIR supports Hamas,” he told me.

He says the evidence clearly shows that the group has aided and protected the operations of groups supporting Hamas, such as IAP and the Holy Land Foundation. Vincent argues that CAIR has managed to hide its true agenda of supporting militant Islam under the “cover” of civil-rights advocacy.

Even more disturbing are the links that CAIR’s forerunner, IAP, has maintained with al-Qaida. In 1989, IAP dedicated its annual convention to the late Abudullah Azzam, the fiery Palestinian cleric and mentor of Osama bin Laden. And newspapers published by IAP have often contained articles praising Azzam, who called for bloody jihad against Israel and its supporters.

The papers also celebrate Hamas suicide attacks on Israelis and publicize Hamas calls for the death of Israel. Awad helped edit the IAP rags before co-founding CAIR.

But that’s not all.

Up until 2001, a Palestinian by the name of Ghassan Dahduli served as an IAP vice president. His name was listed in the address book of bin Laden’s personal secretary, Wadi al-Hage, who is serving a life sentence in prison for his role in the U.S. Embassy bombings in Africa. The address book was introduced as evidence at his trial.

Dahduli, who refused to cooperate in the 9/11 investigation, was deported to Jordan soon after the attacks. He served under CAIR’s Ahmad when Ahmad was president of IAP from 1991 to 1994, the year he left to start up CAIR.

LGF

So What's the Problem???

What does the Koran say?

People assume that the Koran (Q'aran - Muslim holy scriptures) has anti-Israel passages. While there is no doubt some level of anti-Jewish sentiment in the Koran, there are many passages that are actually in support of a Jewish state of Israel! The following are eleven passages showing the support for a Jewish state in the Muslim holy scriptures.

Sura 2:190

A case could even be made that Israel's victory over the Arabs in the 1948 war was a judgement by Allah against the Arabs for their apostasy in opposing the Zionists. This would be their just reward for transgressing Sura 2:190, which says, "Fight in the way of Allah against those who fight against you, but begin not hostilities."

Sura 5:21

Moses is quoted as telling the Jews to "enter into the Holy Land which Allah has assigned to you". While Mohammed later condemns the Jews for their sins and their refusal to accept his message, he never says that, as punishment, Allah has revoked our title to the Holy Land. Therefore the title still stands, and Muslim anti-Zionists are apostates.

Sura 9:5

“Then when the Sacred Months have passed, kill the disbelievers wherever you find them, and capture them and besiege them, and prepare for them each and every ambush. But if they repent and observe the Islamic lifestyle, then leave their way free. Verily, Allah is Oft Forgiving, Most Merciful.” - Does this sound like a peaceful religion to you?

Sura 10:93-94

“We settled the Children of Israel in a beautiful dwelling-place...If thou wert in doubt as to what We have revealed unto thee, then ask those who have been reading the Book from before thee" - In case you had any doubts about whether the Koran talks about the Jews' right to live in the land of Israel.

Sura 16:126
"If ye punish, then punish with the like of that wherewith ye were afflicted." Yet Ariel Sharon's nonviolent, if provocative, visit to the Temple Mount was met with rioting,
including the use of firebombs and AK-47's.

Sura 17:4
"And We [Allah] gave (clear) warning to the children of Israel in the Book, that twice would they do mischief on the earth and be elated with mighty arrogance (and twice would they be punished)!" The succeeding verses tell us that the punishment referred to was banishment from the land. But "twice" means twice, not three times; hence the Jews, having been banished from the land once by the Babylonians and a second time by Rome, will never again be banished from the land. According to the Qur'an, Israel is an eternal nation.

Moreover, "twice would they do mischief on the earth" means twice, not three times; hence the Jews will never again do mischief on the earth. In particular, the Jews cannot bear moral responsibility for the Palestinian refugee problem.

Sura 17:7

The Palestinians deny that there ever was a Jewish Temple in Jerusalem. But Sura 17:7 records the destruction of the First Temple by Babylon and the Second Temple by Rome, and Mohammed never contests the Bible's claim that the Temples were in Jerusalem.

Sura 17:104
The Jews' return from 19 centuries of exile is actually the fulfillment of Islamic prophecy. Sura 17:104 says that
'And we said to the Children of Israel afterwards, "Go live into this land. When the final prophecy comes to pass, we will summon you all in one group."'

Sura 60:9
Moreover, Sura 60:9 forbids aiding the enemies of the Muslim people. Contrast this with the Palestinians' continued support of Saddam Hussein, whose hands are red with the blood of Iranian, Kurdish, and Kuwaiti Muslims.

Sura 83:1
"Woe to those that deal in fraud"; yet Yasir Arafat reneged on his promise to guard Joseph's Tomb in Nablus after the Israeli troops withdrew.

10 COMMANDMENTS FOR POLITICIANS

1. Thou shalt not rob those who work hard in order to subsidize those
who hardly work . Note to politicians: If you really believe that
drunks, druggies, and derelicts have a "right" to "equal housing," open
up the doors of your own home!

2. Thou shalt not send American troops into harm's way -- and then stab
them in the back when they're fighting at the front. Cut and run is not
a sound strategy for military victory. Those like Mr. Murtha who are
still fighting the War in Vietnam should not let their pitiful
flashbacks dictate our foreign policy.

3. Thou shalt not kill unborn babies. Period.

4. Thou shalt not extort income taxes above 10% of the America worker's
annual earnings. If 10% is good enough for God, it's good enough for
government.

5. Thou shalt not grant amnesty to illegal aliens. Instead of rewarding
them with a primrose "path to citizenship, " put them on the fast track
to the Mexican border.

6. Thou shalt not surrender American sovereignty. There is no "global
test." There is no "precedent in foreign law." And there is no need to
continue subsidizing the UN's Kofi Anan and his America-bashing band of
predators, pariahs, and piranhas.

7. Thou shalt not pay yourselves one more dime than the average income
of the American worker. If you truly want to represent us, learn to live
within our means. Then, maybe you'll stop robbing us blind and spending
us broke. Perhaps if you learn firsthand how hard it is for the average
American to balance the family budget, you'll become a little more adept
at balancing the federal budget.

8. Thou shalt serve no more than two terms in office. Remember us? We're
the ones who sent you to Washington mistakenly thinking you might one
day want to return ... The ones you seem to hope will now leave you
alone, forget your phone number, and stop inundating you with FREE
emails and ActiFaxes. Well, don't count on it - because it's never going
to happen.

9. Thou shalt not continue to endorse, support, or condone the
government's ruthless persecution of Christians, Christian values, and
Christian observances. Let's put it this way: Every year the Manger
Scene is not back in the public square further diminishes your chances
of getting back into public office. What exactly is it that you don't
understand about, "Congress shall make no law prohibiting the free
exercise [of religion]"?

10. Thou shalt not place yourself above the law. When you get caught
driving drunk, don't try to pull rank - just take the breathalyzer and
perp walk to the patty wagon .. When you assault a police officer,
don't claim the divine right of royalty ... And when you get caught
taking a bribe, don't claim that "congressional privilege" means the
cold cash is yours to keep.

The human rights outrage in Iran…and a challenge to Rosie O’Donnell and her ilk

By Michelle Malkin • June 24, 2007 06:30 AM

Today I am joining blogs Gateway Pundit, Ali Eteraz, and Iran Focus in reprinting the latest batch of Iranian repression photos being distributed by the regime’s state-run FARS News agency and ISNA. The innocent young men in the photos were beaten, humiliated, and arrested for wearing Western clothing and hairstyles. It is in the public interest to spread these photos far and wide. The images should be seared onto the global conscience:

farsbrutal003.jpg
Masked Muslim moral police force a man wearing clothes deemed un-Islamic to suck on a plastic container Iranians use to wash their bottoms.

isna002.jpg
Bloodied, beaten, then taken away.

farsbrutal.jpg
Whipped for wearing a soccer shirt.

farsbrutal002.jpg
Behead all those who wear their hair too long.

isna.jpg
Another public beating.

farsbrutal005.jpg
The Iranian morality police arrest the infidel after forcing him to drink from the toilet watering cans hanging around his neck.

farsbrutal004.jpg
Another head busted open in the name of Allah.

Question: Will these photos be blared across the front pages of the international media with as much disgust and condemnation as the photos of Abu Ghraib or the manufactured Gitmo Koran-flushing riots?

Answer: Fat chance.

Question: What do leftist apologists for the Iranian regime have to say about the brutal, appalling, and escalating crackdown on human rights? Yeah, you, Rosie.

Answer: Nothing.

Question: Will the same moral cowards who sat silently while Mohammad Khatami, former President of Iran, advocated executing gays during a Harvard lecture stand up now against this barbarism?

Answer: Of course not.

The latest wave of repression has been going on for months. No one, not even Khatami himself, has been spared scrutiny. Now, the New York Times finally (a rare note of thanks and praise to them) reports:

Young men wearing T-shirts deemed too tight or haircuts seen as too Western have been paraded bleeding through Tehran’s streets by uniformed police officers who force them to suck on plastic jerrycans, a toilet item Iranians use to wash their bottoms. In case anyone misses the point, it is the official news agency Fars distributing the pictures of what it calls “riffraff.” Far bloodier photographs are circulating on blogs and on the Internet.

The country’s police chief boasted that 150,000 people — a number far larger than usual — were detained in the annual spring sweep against any clothing considered not Islamic. More than 30 women’s rights advocates were arrested in one day in March, according to Human Rights Watch, five of whom have since been sentenced to prison terms of up to four years. They were charged with endangering national security for organizing an Internet campaign to collect more than a million signatures supporting the removal of all laws that discriminate against women.

Eight student leaders at Tehran’s Amir Kabir University, the site of one of the few public protests against Mr. Ahmadinejad, disappeared into Evin Prison starting in early May. Student newspapers had published articles suggesting that no humans were infallible, including the Prophet Muhammad and Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The National Security Council sent a stern three-page warning to all the country’s newspaper editors detailing banned topics, including the rise in gasoline prices or other economic woes like possible new international sanctions, negotiations with the United States over the future of Iraq, civil society movements and the Iranian-American arrests.

So what does Amnesty International USA have to say about the Iranian human rights debacle on its homepage today? Nothing. Instead, the site promotes two campaigns for Darfur and a lead story about the campaign to secure habeas corpus rights for terror suspects at Guantanamo Bay.

At Tulsa mosque, criticizing Islamic terrorists can be hazardous to your health

Submitted by admin on Sat, 2007-06-23 13:16.

Investigative report by Douglas J. Hagmann, Director

Lawsuit also names Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) & NORTH AMERICAN ISLAMIC TRUST (NAIT)as defendants

"By reason of the published statements of the Defendants, alleging that Jamal Miftah is "a traitor... anti Muslim... anti Islamic" Jamal Miftah’s life has been put in danger in the sense that he has been labeled apostate from the Muslim Religion by the Defendants and vulnerable to the death penalty in Muslim countries and/or vigilante justice in his adopted homeland."

23 June 2007: Jamal MIFTAH, a Muslim who attended the Islamic Society of Tulsa, Oklahoma is now considered “public enemy number one” in the Tulsa Muslim community. His crime? He openly condemned the terrorist actions of Osama bin Laden and other Islamic terrorists in a letter to the editor (reprinted below) that was published in the Tulsa World daily newspaper on 29 October 2006. In his op-ed piece, MIFTAH urged Muslims to stop killing in the name of Islam, called bin Laden and other top Islamic terrorist cowards and stated that “some mosques and Islamic institutions in the U.S. and around the world have become tools in their hands and are used for collecting funds for their criminal acts.”

What happened to Mr. MIFTAH following the publication of his letter is the focus of a lawsuit he filed against the Islamic Society of Tulsa and several other related defendants. (A transcription of the lawsuit is published in its entirety below). According to Mr. MIFTAH, on or about 18 November 2006, he attended prayers at the mosque as he had normally done in the past. Following the prayers, Mr. MIFTAH alleges that the Iman of the Mosque and a defendant named in the lawsuit, Ahmad KABBANI, confronted him in an aggressive manner – forcing him to retreat against a wall inside the mosque and told him that he “should be ashamed” of the letter he wrote, claiming that it was “anti-Islamic.”

At the same time and while being nearly pinned against the wall, mosque members and named defendants Houssam ELSOUESSSI, Abdullah ROE and Nooruddin DOE also confronted Mr. Miftah, screaming and shouting allegations that Mr. MIFTAH is “anti Muslim” and a “traitor” to Islam. ROE also removed his shoe, waived and swung it at Mr. MIFTAH’S face, shouting that he was “anti Muslim” and a “traitor.” Mr. MIFTAH was ultimately assisted by another member of the mosque who observed these activities and accompanied him outside, away from his aggressors.

In addition to the assault and defamation charges, the lawsuit enjoins additional defendants - specifically the ISLAMIC SOCIETY OF NORTH AMERICA (ISNA), and the NORTH AMERICAN ISLAMIC TRUST (NAIT). The Islamic Society of Tulsa, Oklahoma, happens to be funded, in part, by the NORTH AMERICAN ISLAMIC TRUST (NAIT) and further affiliated with the ISNA.

Additionally, the Northeast Intelligence Network is investigating ties between one of the co-defendants in this case- Mujeeb CHEEMA, a director of the Islamic Society of Tulsa, OK to Faisal CHEEMA the roommate of Joel Henry HINRICHS III. We will be providing updates as they are developed.

Also, it is important to note that in December 2003, the chairman and ranking Democrat of the Senate Finance Committee, Senators Charles Grassley and Max Baucus, respectively, listed ISNA as one of 25 American Muslim organizations that "finance terrorism and perpetuate violence."

According to the sound research of Mr. Frank Gaffney, Jr., the founder and president of the Center for Security Policy and the author of War Footing: 10 Steps America Must Take to Prevail in the War for the Free World, The Islamic Society of North America is a front for the promotion of Saudi Arabia’s Wahhabi political, doctrinal and theological infrastructure in the United States and Canada. Established by the Saudi-funded Muslim Students Association, ISNA has for years sought to marginalize leaders of the Muslim faith who do not support the Wahhabists’ strain of Islamofascism, and, through sponsorship of propaganda and mosques, is pursuing a strategic goal of eventually dominating Islam in America.

ISNA provides indoctrination materials to about 1,100 of an estimated 2,500 mosques on the North American continent. Through its affiliate, the North American Islamic Trust (NAIT) – a Saudi government-backed organization created to fund Islamist enterprises in North America – it reportedly holds the mortgages of between 50 and 79 percent of those mosques. Through this device, ISNA exerts ideological as well as theological influence over what is preached and taught in these institutions and their schools.

Letter to the Editor that was published in The Tulsa World on 29 October 2006:

Message of Islam is not jihad, fatwahs

Mr. Jamal Miftah, Plaintiff

By Jamal Miftah

I moved to the United States in March 2003, with my four kids and wife from Pakistan bordering Afghanistan. There was a call by a local jihadi organization to fight the coalition forces in Afghanistan. One of my dearest friends, Mirza Kohistani, fell prey to that call and joined the group, despite my advice and that of his wife to him.

All the leaders of that organization returned safely after the fall of the Taliban empire, but they left behind the body of my friend and hundreds of other innocent people like him.

I am obliged to respond to Ayman al-Zawahri's recent video message, portraying himself as champion of Islam and others as liars.

My message to Ayman al-Zawahri and Muslims of the world: "Islam" means submission and is derived from a word meaning "peace." Islam, Christianity and Judaism have the same origin, the Prophet Abraham. The prophet of Islam has said that God has no mercy on someone who does not have mercy for others.

I ask that al-Zawahri look at his deeds and those of his master, Osama bin Laden, and other so-called Islamic jihadists.

Because of lack of knowledge of Islam, Muslim youth are misguided into believing by the so-called champions of the cause of Islam that the current spate of killings and barbarism, which has no equal in the recent civilized history, is jihad in the name of Islam. They are incited, in the name of Islam, to commit heinous crimes not pardonable by any religion and strictly forbidden in Islam.

Cowards like al-Zawahri and bin Laden are inciting the ignorant and innocent youths to commit suicide bombings to kill innocent civilians including children, women and the elderly, while they hide in spider holes and caves. They never send their own sons and daughters, born out of half a dozen of their wives, to get killed in the name of Islam. They are themselves hypo crites, cowards, thugs and liars. For 12 years they misappropriated aid received from the U.S. and the West to fight Russia. Now they are ensuring smooth flow of petro dollars from Arab countries in the name of jihad against the West.

Even mosques and Islamic institutions in the U.S. and around the world have become tools in their hands and are used for collecting funds for their criminal acts. Half of the funds collected go into the pockets of their local agents and the rest are sent to these thugs.

They are the reason for branding the peaceful religion of Islam as terrorism. The result, therefore, is in the form of Danish cartoons and remarks/reference by the Pope.

I appeal to the Muslim youth in particular and Muslims of the world in general to rise up and start jihad against the killers of humanity and help the civilized world to bring these culprits to justice and prove that Islam is not a religion of hatred and aggression.

I appeal to the Muslim clerics around the world that, rather than issuing empty fatwas condemning suicide bombing, they should issue a fatwa for the death of such scoundrels and barbarians who have taken more than 4,267 lives of innocent people in the name of Islam and have carried out more than 24 terrorist attacks on civilian installations throughout the world. This does not include the chilling number of deaths because of such activities in Iraq and Afghanistan, which is well over 250,000.

I appeal to al-Zawahri and his band of thugs to hand themselves over to justice and stop spreading evil and killing innocent humans around the world in the name of Islam. Their time is limited and Muslims of the world will soon rise against them to apprehend them and bring them to justice.

Lawsuit filed by Miftah

IN THE DISTRICT COURT IN AND FOR TULSA COUNTY STATE OF OKLAHOMA

Defendants.

ORIGINAL PETITION

COMES NOW, Jamal Miftah, Plaintiff, by and through his Attorney of Record, B. Kent Felty and would allege and prove the following:

JURISDICTION AND VENUE

1. Jamal Miftah is a legal permanent resident of the United States of America, the State of Oklahoma, the County of Tulsa.

2. Defendant the Islamic Society of Tulsa (hereinafter IST) is an Oklahoma Corporation with its principal place of business in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Islamic Society of North America (hereinafter ISNA) and the North American Islamic Trust (hereinafter NAIT) are Indiana corporations doing substantial and continuous business and holding property in Tulsa County, Oklahoma.

3. Defendants Farooq Ali, Javed Jaliwala, Sheryl Siddiqui, Sandra Rana, Tariq Masood, Muhammad Ashwait, Houssam Elsoueissi a/k/a Abu Waleed, Mujeeb Cheema and Ahmad Kabbani are residents of Tulsa County, Oklahoma and serve as Directors and Officers of the IST.

4. Defendants Abdullah Roe and Nooruddin Doe are believed to be members of the Tulsa Mosque and residents of Tulsa County, Oklahoma.

5. All of the events that form the basis of Jamal Miftah’s claims occurred in Tulsa County, Oklahoma.

COUNT ONE – ASSAULT

6. On or about October 29, 2006 Jamal Miftah wrote an “op-ed” piece published in the Tulsa World calling on Muslim clerics and youth to forsake and stand against terrorists whose “heinous crimes (are) not pardonable by any religion and strictly forbidden in Islam…”

7. In the aforementioned op-ed piece Jamal Miftah also alleged that some mosques in the United States and around the world are being used to collect money for terrorists.

8. On or about November 18, 2006 Jamal Miftah went to the Tulsa Mosque owned and operated by the Defendants IST, ISNA and NAIT to offer his last prayer of the day (Ishaa prayer). Following prayers, the Iman of the Mosque, Ahmad Kabbani, a defendant herein, confronted Jamal Miftah in the Mosque and stated that he “should be ashamed” of the aforementioned op-ed piece, which was “anti-Islamic”.

9. Following the lead of Ahmad Kabbani, Houssam Elsouesssi, a defendant herein, and two other members of the Mosque, Abdullah Roe and Nooruddin Doe, defendants herein, confronted Jamal Miftah.

10. These three defendants screamed and shouted at Jamal Miftah, alleging that he was “anti Muslim” and a “traitor”, in an apparent attempt to incite a riot within the walls of the Mosque.

11. Abdullah Roe took his shoe off, waived said shoe and swung said shoe wildly at Jamal Miftah’s face, calling and shouting that that Jamal Miftah was “anti Muslim” and a “traitor.”

12. Jamal Miftah was put in imminent fear of serious bodily harm as the aforementioned defendants forced him into a wall.

13. Jamal Miftah was at that point rescued by another member of the Mosque and led outside of the Mosque.

COUNT TWO - DEFAMATION

14. Paragraphs one (1) through thirteen (13) are incorporated by reference.

15. The day after the assault noted above, Jamal Miftah received word through a member of the Mosque (not a defendant herein) that a Temporary Restraining Order had been issued against him, sworn to by Houssam Elsouessi, and that the restraining order would be removed if he issued a public apology for the op-ed piece, deemed to be “anti Muslim” and “anti Islamic” by the mosque leadership.

16. On November 20, 2006 the Mosque Leadership, met and issued a direction (fatwa) to members of the Mosque – ordering them to call the Tulsa Police Department in the event Jamal Miftah returned to the Mosque, unless or until Jamal Miftah issued a public apology for his published opinion, which was anti Islamic and anti Muslim.

17. Jamal Miftah responded that the Mosque leadership must rescind its fatwa, alleging he was anti Muslim and anti Islamic and directing his expulsion from the Mosque.

18. On November 24, 2006 a local TV channel published the story of Jamal Miftah’s expulsion from the Mosque. Within that story the Mosque leadership alleged that Miftah was being expelled because he was “loud” and that he would be allowed to return when he apologized, privately, to the Members and Leadership of the Mosque.

19. On November 29, 2006, Sandra Rana, a defendant herein, published a statement where she alleged that Jamal Miftah was physically removed from the Mosque after he threatened violence and cursed during a “discussion” of his published opinion. Rana stated that Jamal Miftah could attend prayers without restriction so long as acted in an “appropriate manner.”

20. On December 1, 2006 the Mosque leadership issued a statement lifting the “ban” on Jamal Miftah “as long as there is no disturbance and that no one at the Mosque should confront him.”

21. By reason of the published statements of the Defendants, alleging that Jamal Miftah is “a traitor… anti Muslim… anti Islamic” Jamal Miftah has been injured in his good name and brought into public disgrace and infamy in the Muslim community.

22. By reason of the published statements of the Defendants, alleging that Jamal Miftah is “a traitor… anti Muslim… anti Islamic” Jamal Miftah’s life has been put in danger in the sense that he has been labeled apostate from the Muslim Religion by the Defendants and vulnerable to the death penalty in Muslim countries and/or vigilante justice in his adopted homeland.

COUNT THREE – INTENTIONAL INFLICTION OF EMOTIONAL DISTRESS

23. Paragraphs one (1) through twenty two (22) are incorporated by reference.

24. The acts of Defendants, individually and jointly, are outrageous in that Defendants knew that if they labeled Jamal Miftah a “traitor… anti Muslim and anti Islamic” his life would be forfeit should he be found in a Muslim Country and labeled apostate and that he would live in constant fear and dread of vigilante “justice” from certain Muslims in the United States.

25. The acts of Defendants are the proximate cause of severe emotional distress in that Jamal Miftah is now labeled as apostate, forced along with his wife and four children to attend to prayers in their home, apart from the fellowship of other Muslims, prevented from traveling to any Muslim Country, including his homeland of Pakistan and robbed of his peace of mind and right to speak freely against those he believes have brought his faith into disrepute via attacks on his adopted homeland and other acts of terrorism. WHEREFORE, premises considered, Jamal Miftah prays for justice, at law and in equity, including but not limited to money damages, to compensate him for damage to his good name, emotional damages, and punitive damages to discourage future misconduct. He also prays for reasonable attorneys’ fees and costs incurred in bringing this action, pre and post judgment interest, an unequivocal written and published apology from all Defendants, and the public lifting of any fatwas or directions to the Muslim community that may endanger his life and peace.

Respectfully submitted,
